Liability insurance for businesses
Short description The LIB covers damages done to people or property, lest this happens within the insured capacity of the company, and the company is found liable. This can be damage caused by a person working for the company to third parties, but also damage caused by employees among each other (bodily harm or other) and damages that employees have sustained during work. The insured amount per occasion is € 907.560 or higher. Usually there is a maximum of twice that amount per insured year. Specification The LIB also covers the costs of liability for damages through the sudden release of environmentally dangerous substances. This dangerous substances coverage does not apply to damage on the insured location itself (company grounds). Environmental damage that has developed gradually, such as tanks or containers that leak for years, is also not covered. For this, a special environmental liability insurance has to be taken out (on so-called MAS conditions). Damage without damages to persons or property is not covered. Damage to goods that the company has in its keeping (used, carried, stores, borrows, rents, treats) and damages done by motor vehicles or aircraft is also excluded. Target group All professional practitioners, entrepreneurs and companies in the Netherlands. Premium The premium is dependent of the type and size of the company. It is calculated based on the revenue and/or the unemployed year income (before franchise), whereby at the end of the insured year a settlement is made based on the statement provided by the insured party. The LIB has a required franchise. A higher franchise means a lower premium. Details Most LIBs only cover damages done in the insured year, so also damage that becomes evident after years (think of professional diseases such as asbestosis, RSI and others). In 1996 the LIB ’96 was introduced, which means that, in principle, damages claimed during the insured period are covered, regardless of the moment the damage was done. The LIB ’96 conditions will, to all probability, be relevant to all LIBs in the near future.
